What 50s-70s band could Panic at the Disco be compared to?

I have to do a project in which we have to compare a band from today to a band from the 50s-70s. I kind of wanted to do Panic at the Disco as today’s band, but I can’t seem to think of a band I could compare them to.
Any other suggestions in case I shouldn’t do Panic at the Disco would be great, thanks!
As much as I would LOVE to do the Beatles, I can’t, someone already took that band.

The Beatles for Christ’s sake! Their new album gets compared to it all the time. Now for their first album, I don’t know, but definitely the Beatles for their newer music. Well, actually, I guess The Cure for some of their old stuff.
Their new album could also be catergorized as maybe some experimental stuff that goes along the lines of The Who or possibly even the Doors. Hey, maybe even The Kooks. I would probably pick the Kooks!

Try and look up some of their influences. They mention a bunch of them in various interviews.
